SEO "Shortcut" That Businesses Are Missing Out On
Jun 09, 2011
In case you haven't heard, or figured it out on your own, a winning search engine optimization campaign can be a little bit difficult to execute. That's not to say that it's hard, exactly, just that it takes a lot of time, work, and especially patience. Who has a surplus of those these days?
Of course, there's not really any way around the months and months of effort and waiting that it takes to make it to one of the prime positions on Google, Yahoo, and Bing… that is, unless you want to take a shortcut.
Here it is: Realize that, as crowded as your market probably is on the major search engines, not everyone will simply type a word or phrase into the search box and start opening up HTML results. A small percentage of users, out of personal preference, will skip the web pages and go directly to other types of media, especially images and videos.
Your small business can take advantage of this fact by producing marketing videos with titles that closely resemble your most important search engine keywords. Make sure they're fun, punchy, and include some sort of information about what your business is about. When you've done that, upload them to your website, add them to YouTube, and create links or other social media profiles. It won't take long before the search engines index them and start displaying them in results. And if your competitors aren't as strong in videos as they are on the web (and most aren't), then your online video will move to the front of the results.
Getting your small business website to one of the prime positions on Google, Yahoo, and Bing can make an enormous difference in your online and off-line profitability, and it's definitely something you should strive for. But given the time and energy it takes to execute a successful SEO campaign, it pays to take a few of the shortcuts like online videos when you can find them.
